Fruitlands Museum Drawing Project / Pioneering Collector Clara Sears

  • Fruitlands Museum 102 Prospect Hill Road Harvard, MA, 01451 United States (map)

I’m currently working with curator Shana Dumont Garr at the Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, MA, as she puts together a striking exhibit chronicling the collection from which the museum grew its holdings. Clara Sears, a woman who lived to 97 and had an eclectic eye and diverse array of objects, is chronicled here as a way to talk about the story of the museum, the region and how a museum collection begins. As a visiting artist, I am helping to hang the exhibition salon style and chronicling the objects in drawings. I am allowed to include objects I am drawn to by color and pattern, associatively pairing baskets and portraits, much the way the original collector might have in her home. I will provide a map of the installation for exhibit brochure and paint from the installation on site once the work goes up. I look forward to drawing upon Shana’s considerable original research on Clara Sears and the Fruitands Museum to enhance my work.

Show opens Saturday April 13th, 2019.

Artist Talk tentatively scheduled for Saturday April 27th, 2019
